Last spring, one of our customers found their septic system needed some updates. They’d held off as long as they could, but with all the rain and the system getting older, it was time to get it fixed. When they saw the costs, they were a bit stressed,  it was a lot! But then they heard about the SepticSmart Rebate Program, which covers up to 75% of certain repair costs, so they decided to give it a try.

In the end, they saved quite a bit. First, they installed an effluent filter to keep solids out of the system, and the rebate covered $100 of that. Next, they replaced a distribution box (rebate covered $200) and then added a riser for easier maintenance – the rebate gave them $400 for that. In total, they saved close to $700. Of course, every situation and home is different, but this shows how much you can save with the program. Here’s everything you need to know to see if you qualify and how to apply.

To save like this customer did, it’s important to understand the process and follow a few steps. Every situation is unique, but the potential savings are real. Here’s everything you need to know about the rebate program and how to apply.

Save Money on Septic Maintenance with the SepticSmart Rebate

If you have a septic system in the Nanaimo area, there’s good news! The SepticSmart Rebate Program by the Regional District of Nanaimo (RDN) offers financial help for essential septic repairs and upgrades, making it easier and more affordable to keep your system running smoothly.

How Can This Rebate Help You?

The SepticSmart Rebate covers 75% of eligible costs for specific maintenance and repairs, putting money back in your pocket while making your system more efficient and reliable. Here’s how it benefits you:

  • Effluent Filter Installation (up to $100): Installing a filter means fewer clogs, less stress on your septic system, and a longer lifespan overall – saving you money on major repairs down the road.
  • Distribution Box Replacement (up to $200): Replacing an old distribution box ensures wastewater flows evenly, reducing the chance of backups and costly repairs.
  • Riser Installation (up to $400): Adding a riser makes future maintenance easy. No more digging to reach your septic system, which saves you time, effort, and extra costs for every service.
  • Major Repairs or System Replacement (up to $700): For larger repairs or full replacements over $8,000, this rebate can significantly reduce your out-of-pocket expense. Perfect for aging systems that need a full refresh.
